And so goes the journey’s preparation. One step at a time. One question at a time. One detail at a time. One day at a time. The months have flown by; a journey that seemed somewhere off in the distance and way off into the future is arriving.... oh so quickly. The days and weeks between the “announcement” and the “departure” have sprouted wings and flown!
Oh my word! Suddenly we find ourselves living the last Monday before Jen leaves, the last Tuesday before Jen leaves and here we are on the last Wednesday before Jen leaves.
The nature of our plan and questions takes a curve. The focal point adjusts.
What do we want to accomplish or share before she goes? These things must be enjoyed, savored, and accomplished in a matter of days!
Now there’s a list with a deadline!
“One last time” has an impact that we can sometimes gloss over when we are living one day at a time, one day after another, in the same place, with the same job, focused on the same goals. We can take a day for granted. We can “mark time”. We can even be caught wishing for the day to fly by.
But when you are counting days as “the last Monday” and “the last Tuesday”... a week takes on a whole new perspective and freezing time becomes a hope! Savor! Savor! Savor!
So onto our list come: 1) Spend time together. 2) Eat what Jen wants to eat. 3) Spend time together .
4) Go where Jen wants to go. 5) Spend time together. 6) Do what Jen wants to do. 7) Spend time together. 8) Help Jen make sure her list is accomplished. 9)Spend time together. 10)Repeat steps 1-9
The sun comes up each day to greet us with a new day and new possibilities.... each day and then again the next day. But this week takes on a very different light. Savor is the verb of the week. It does take a bit of effort to replace “panic” and its anxiety with “savor”. But the focus remains “savor”, one breath at a time.
Faithfulness to each other. Gratitude for life’s blessings. Hope for tomorrow.
These three drive away the anxiety and allow the savor.
