Time to Fly - September 11, 2011

September 11th in the USA is a day of reflection, remembrances, and respect for those who have sacrificed.  September 11, 2011 is the tenth anniversary of that day and act of terror that I will never forget.  Yet, today I am not watching the news coverage; I am not listening to the tributes; I am living in a cocoon;  because tomorrow Jen flies.

Jen and I spend the day finishing the packing and cleaning out of her living space; storing the last boxes; going over details; running the vacuum; washing the dishes; checking out paperwork and business needs;  paperwork galore.  Lots of busy work keeps us focused on “one task at a time - one step at a time”.

In Lincoln, the Guardians of Freedom Air Show is flying overhead.  Jen and I take a break and head to Sonic for one great 44 ounce fresh iced tea.  There flying over Holdrege Street soar the Blue Angels.  Two great symbols of American Freedom....  iced tea and the Navy!  We are reminded that all is secure; as secure as it gets - anyway.

The “one last times” have been mostly accomplished....  the friends, the family, the outings, the food have been attended.  Her luggage is packed and weighed.  Her carryons are continuing to swell.  It is hard to pack 100 lbs for 10 months of living and a full change of seasons.  There is one last evening of traditions for us to observe.

The evening draws near and one last native to Lincoln, American Culinary treat is ordered:  TASTY!  If you live in Lincoln you may well be familiar with Tasty Inn and Out!  As I type that name....  I see a perspective I have never really thought of before .....  as I reflect on the high fat foods of Tasty Inn and Out!   Following Joseph’s midget football game, the Kopetka family joins us for an evening of food, Wii, checking of lists, and farewells.  We will share the “see you later”.

We share “farewell” as in faring well; living well; prospering and thriving.

Jackie, Stephanie and Joseph Kopetka share the farewell!
We share “see you later” as in we will be here for each other along the way, whether we are in the same room or not even the same hemisphere!

None of us is willing to be the one that points to the clock and states the obvious.
None of us is wanting to bring a close to the evening.
Each of us holds on - physically and emotionally  - resisting the change that is drawing ever so near.

Oh my word, to represent the US as a Fulbright is a huge honor, not only for Jen but for each of us.  To share Jen with Eastern Europe is a blessing for her and for them.  To say good night and let the early morning arrive for her early flight is hard.

Lord, grant us thy peace.
