Tim and I left the terminal and headed to the car. Seeing the United Express flight taxi across to the west runway, we drove the loop and managed to drive along side as the flight took off. That is one advantage to small city living! We drove the first 1/2 mile of her journey in parallel with Jen’s flight. She was off to Chicago, Pittsburgh, Dulles, Vienna, and Skopje.
What do you do while waiting for the confirmation of a safe flight?
Oh my word! It was to be a long, long flight and day of travel for Jen, both physically and emotionally and I guarantee it was putting mileage on me!
After getting some work accomplished at the shop, Tim headed to the railroad to work on a safety project. But what’s a mother to do? Avoid any news on tv or radio, avoid any contact with trivial noise and take delight in the beauty of the clear blue sky!
It was a magnificently beautiful early fall day and the blueness of the clear sky made it easy to look up.... and there across the sky were jet trails. Enough time had passed that Jen was well east of the sky between my horizons, but I sat looking up at all those jet trails. Who else was leaving their mark in the sky today? Thousands upon thousands of travelers leave their mark in our Nebraska sky every day but rarely have I spent so much time pondering their stories, their journeys, their awaiting destinations. I wondered if anyone could possibly be traveling as long and far as Jen! I thought about the loved ones supporting each traveler. I prayed for all to have safe travels to and from their loved ones.
Nothing worthwhile or worthy in this earthly life comes without effort, sacrifice, ad some good hard work.
(This is the first dose of this wisdom and its reality)
The reality of this adventure’s greatness was revealing itself in the depth of this effort.
Stay focused. Stay optimistic. Her flight path will be as clear as this blue sky!
